Finding actual liquid flow in Unisim and OLI Pro with OLI Electrolytes

How to find the actual volumetric flow in Unisim/OLI Pro/HYSYS when using the OLI Electrolyte fluid package?

This is a long standing issue going back to the HYSYS days (and thus UNISIM and OLI Pro). The problem is they developers of HYSYS (and I have to rest the blame with them) did not allow for the OLI Electrolyte fluid package to be fully represented in the all parts of the code. Thus the Workbook and the report writer do not have access to all our properties. This can be painful in a large flowsheet.

Using any flowsheet we can start our tutorial by looking at any stream. For this example, our PFD has a stream "104". Here we opened the worksheet view for the entire process.

As you can the value is <empty>

Let's find our stream on the PFD.

Open this stream by double-clicking the stream.

Open the Properties Category.

Expand the dialog by dragging the right edge to the right.

The overall all entry is <Empty>. The individual phases are represented. The 104_Elec is actually the overall value but it is not populated in the right place for the report/workbook view.

This limitation also shows up in the calculator blocks as well. It’s a pain but we have asked Honeywell (they wrote the basic GUI) to have it fixed. It has also been reported to Aspen Technologies. I have no idea when it will be resolved.
